There is beauty in uniqueness, and this one held it in spades! Imagine the breathtaking backdrop of Gabriola Island, with light batches of misty rain, intermittent dramatic dark clouds and then a smoke hazed sunset. A large part of BC was on fire this summer, and Gabriola was no different – the day started off with a telephone pole that caught fire, lit like a candle.
The fire blocked off a key part of the island where the reception location was as well as the bridal couple getting ready. I had to leave my car and hike the beach, backpacking my gear past the fire hose spray, and the family was kind enough to come grab me.
I will state here and now, this bride was TOTALLY prepared, and despite her day starting with a power outage, her friends and family were able to find and flag a secret alternate route for guests since the only road was shut down. An emergency wash and (mostly) dry of a bridesmaids dress, all went well getting ready for the ceremony.
The ceremony was held on a picturesque park field overlooking the Salish Sea, with live music and an audience of family and friends. Formals were an adventure across the island, stopping in groves of trees and the Malespina galleries. Reception at the Surf Lodge with the most amazing backdrop view of the sea with passing ferries.
A quote from the Groom sums up his wedding in total: “I wish I could do this everyday! This is the best day ever!”
You can just tell from their photos just how wonderful and good natured people they are, full of laughter, smiles and jokes. I was super honoured to capture their day, and wish them a lifetime of happiness.
