First impressions often start online. Your headshot can have a dramatic impact and you want to appear in the best light possible that compliments your brand.
For an author, they want to appear established, professional, interesting and approachable – vs a corporate ‘lawyer’ or sports althlete look. Perhaps even in a way that reflects their genre or style of writing. For example, you dont often see cheerful smiling portraits on the profile from an author who writes only in the horror genre.
For this romance author, we wanted her images to be professional looking, but also may have a bit of a soft look to them through use of colour/posing & expression. She has a natural ‘Mona Lisa’ smile which suited her genre perfectly – like she has great stories to tell!
We took a mix of ‘approachable’ posed images (with relaxed shoulders), as well as some ‘thoughtful’ posed images. Her beautiful teal blouse with flowy sleeves added the softer look making them less corporate and more interesting ‘romance author.’
